West Virginia Asthma Coalition 2005-2006 Committee List and Goals

Committees are Asthma Management, Community Education and Outreach, Data Sharing, Environment, and Schools and Pediatrics.  We will be forming an Advocacy Committee and an Occupational Asthma Committee in the upcoming year.

 

Asthma Management

The Asthma Management Committee supports the use of the National Health Institutes of Health guidelines and disseminates these “best practices” to providers and health professionals throughout the state; assures quality of hospital care; establishes a team approach to treating asthma; identifies economics of poor care and policy changes for areas of reimbursement and patient education; and develops guidelines or teaching tools for screening.

Community Outreach and Education Committee

 

The Community Education and Outreach Committee identifies needs and resources; develops strategies to address needs of people with asthma, including public awareness and information campaigns; holds professional training seminars for nurses, day care centers; and educates parents to understand their child’s disease.

Data Sharing Committee

 

The Data Sharing Committee is dedicated to collect and present data about asthma, which will help providers, health professionals, administrators and legislators understand the magnitude of asthma and its ramifications.

Environment Committee

 

The Environment Committee promotes clean indoor air; bans toxic materials in schools, establishes guidelines for schools; locates funding to have schools tested for clean indoor air; establishes healthy home standards and works with the building industry to promote those standards.

Environment Committee Goals for 2005-2006


Schools, Pediatrics Committee

 

The Schools/Pediatrics Committee identifies asthma-related needs of children in all environments (including schools, daycare centers, HeadStart and preschool centers) focusing on assessment of quality of care and identification of ways to promote appropriate asthma care and management (including use of medication and staff education).
