“FACES OF LUNG DISEASE”
CAMPAIGN
Pam Yoder, is a young mother of 2 boys and would like to celebrate her upcoming 20th wedding anniversary with her husband. However, Pam is one of the many people that have been diagnosed with Phase 4 Lung Cancer this year. The estimated 5-year survival rate for all patients in whom lung cancer is diagnosed is less than 15% if caught early. Please help the American Lung Association put an end to lung disease. Your donations go towards critical research and educational programs. Please share your stories and photographs of your loved ones that suffer or have suffered from lung disease, with us by clicking on Pam’s photo above.

Volunteers
Make A Difference
Volunteers
= Success. Without volunteers,
what
would we do?
Volunteers are a vital part of who we are
and what we do. They believe in and support our mission - to prevent
lung disease and promote lung health. The American Lung
Association of West Virginia is a nonprofit organization. As such, it
depends heavily on volunteers to carry out its work.
Volunteer opportunities exist in many
areas, for the young and for the young at heart, for athletes, for
grandparents, for youth and for teens. At events such as our Greenbrier Trail Bike Trek the "Blow the Whistle on Asthma"
walks, and programs like Camp Catch Your Breath, volunteers make everything
possible. Our events and our asthma camp are fun for everyone. If
you like excitement, these are the volunteer opportunities for you. Yet
another way to volunteer your time is to become a certified facilitator for
one of our tobacco prevention or cessation programs below: Teens
Against Tobacco Use (T.A.T.U.)® is our teen empowerment and prevention
program that we take to elementary and middle schools. If you would
like to help keep our youth from starting tobacco use, this program is for
you. Not On
Tobacco (N-O-T)® is our successful teen cessation program. As a
N-O-T Facilitator, you'll be able to help our teens kick the
habit. Freedom From
Smoking ((FFS)® facilitators are trained to help adults give up tobacco
in a group setting.
While the above volunteers give so freely
of their valuable time, others like to participate in events such as the 24
Hours of Snowshoe or the Greenbrier Trail Bike Trek. All volunteers are
critical in our fundraising efforts. They compete in events for prizes
and raise money for the American Lung Association of West Virginia and they
have fun in the process! To learn how you can volunteer for our events,
check out our Events web page. Of course, there are also those less
glamorous tasks like stuffing envelopes and answering the phone. Visit
our If you would like to get involved with the
ALAWV as a volunteer, please complete the form below and submit
electronically. Steve James will
get in touch with you as soon as possible about volunteer opportunities. |
